Bank Review Pack

Everything the bank asks for, done before they ask.

Most annual reviews go wrong because the numbers arrive late, in pieces, or in a shape the credit team has to rebuild. Farm CFO puts together the whole pack, set out the way a bank reads it, about six weeks before your meeting.

What's in the pack

A budget for each enterprise, whether that's a farrow-to-finish piggery, a cow-calf herd, a trading cattle operation, Merinos or prime lambs. Each one shows its income, direct costs and gross margin, with the yield, price and stocking assumptions written down.

A monthly cashflow from now to the following review, with the closing balance each month against your overdraft limit. You and the bank can see the tightest month before you get there.

Two tests the bank will run anyway: a poor season (lower production and extra feed) and a price drop on your main product. If either breaks the limit, the pack says what you would do about it.

A debt schedule, a statement of what you own and owe, the key ratios from the Health Check, and a two-page covering note written the way a credit manager wants to read one.

What happens at the review

You go in with your own numbers and you understand them, which matters more than most people realise. A bank lends to the people running the business, not to their adviser.

If you'd like support on the day, Nick can attend the meeting with you at no extra cost when it falls on one of his regular east coast visits, or by video.

How it works

What to expect

Book six weeks out

Let us know when the review is and which bank. Sooner is better if you're also asking for new money.

We meet once

About two hours, on farm or by video, to go through the year ahead: stock numbers, sales, feed, capital spending.

We build the pack

Budgets, cashflow and tests. You get a draft to check before anything goes to the bank.

It goes to the bank

You send it, or we send it with your permission. Then we prepare for the questions they'll ask.

Who it suits

  • Every livestock business with an annual review
  • Anyone asking the bank for a bigger limit, a new loan or a restructure
  • Applications for a Regional Investment Corporation loan, which need the same numbers

Frequently asked questions

Which banks do you prepare packs for?

All of them. The pack is laid out the way credit teams generally assess farm lending, and we adjust it to the lender's own forms where they have them.

Can you help with a Regional Investment Corporation loan?

Yes. A RIC application needs the same budget, cashflow and financial position. Preparing the application is included in the pack where it applies.

What if the numbers don't look good?

Then it's better we find that out six weeks early than in the meeting. The pack sets out what you'd change, which is what the bank wants to hear.
