Farm CFO

A CFO for the farm, part-time.

For businesses big enough to need someone watching the numbers every month, but not big enough to employ them. Farm CFO takes that job on for a fixed monthly fee and works alongside your accountant.

Every month

Each month we pull your figures from Xero, tidy what needs tidying and produce a short set of management accounts. Alongside them sits a handful of numbers that matter for your enterprise, such as feed cost per kilogram of pork, cost of production per kilogram of beef, or wool and lamb income against budget.

The cashflow rolls forward twelve months every month, so you always know the low point coming and how much room there is under the limit. Then we talk it through on a call.

Through the year

We prepare the annual bank pack and attend bank meetings with you. We watch your limits and any covenants so nothing surprises you or the bank. When a big decision comes up, like more sows, a new shed, buying in store cattle or another block, we model it before you commit.

We also keep your other advisers working from the same numbers. Your accountant still does your tax and BAS. Your vet, nutritionist, agent and agronomist still give the advice in their fields. Equipment finance goes through our sister business, Levelhead Advisory, if you want it, and any commission it earns is disclosed in writing first.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum term?

Three months to start, then month to month with a month's notice either way.

Do I need to be on Xero?

It makes the monthly work quicker and cheaper to run, so we'll help you move across if you're not on it. We can work from other systems, though the first few months take longer.

Will you do my bookkeeping?

No. Your bookkeeper or accountant keeps doing that, along with the BAS. We work from the books once they're done.
